Biography
I am a Chair Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). Prior to this appointment, I was a Professor and an ARC Australian Laureate Fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Adelaide (March 2021 - July 2025). I was elected to the Fellow of Australian Academy of Science and the Fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering in 2023.
My research team focuses on the design and application of electrode materials and electrolytes for energy storage and conversion, including rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, and fuel cells. My expertise includes electrochemistry, charge transfer and transport kinetics, electrocatalysis, solid-state chemistry, and materials synthesis and characterization.
My contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous awards, including an ARC Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship (2010), an ARC Future Fellowship (2015), an ARC Laureate Fellowship (2021), and the Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher award from 2018 to 2024. I was also the recipient of the 2020 NSW Premier's Prize for Science & Engineering in the category of Excellence in Engineering or Information and Communications Technology.
